In another fine example of Big Government running over the small guy, Lenox BBQ was torn down this week. The reason? Well, the Harrisburg light rail of course! Got to have light rail out to the East side now.

If you never ate at Lenox’s, then you missed out. Anytime I was on the East side working, I tried to stop in for lunch. The Customers were a true mix of the cultures that make up Houston and the food was second to none! I’m sad to see ‘em go but the Owners say they’ll still be catering and delivering food. They’re also thinking about opening another restaurant someplace in the area.

Still, after 63 years it’s sad to see a place like Lenox’s get demolished because of so called “progress for the City”. Which, most anyone who has a lick of common sense knows exactly what it is and it’s not progress!

I was in a coffee shop the other day when I overheard two people talking about the Olympics. One said to the other, “One day Houston will host the Olympics“.

What a stupid and naive statement I thought to myself.

Okay, it might happen but only under the right circumstances. Mainly that the decision makers along with the IOCC are paid off. That’s the only reason I can see that a pollution filled crap hole city such as Beijing would be allowed to host the Olympics.

Here are just a few reasons Houston will never host the Olympics.

Houston is not a convention city nor a tourist trap. We’re pretty much a city driven by oil and chemicals with just a smattering of tech and financial companies thrown in to make us “look” diverse. Companies don’t come here for conventions, unless other desirable convention cities like Las Vegas, Dallas, Austin or San Antonio are booked up first. I’d go as far as to say that on a per capita basis, San Antonio has more conventions and tourist destinations than Houston.

Can you imagine Bill White and Rick Perry asking the oil and chemical companies to shut down for a few weeks while the Olympics were in town? Just so the air would clear up? Ha!

Just think about what the media would say the first time those TransStar signs were flashing “Ozone Watch Today, Please Stay Indoors” and they cancelled all outside sporting events.

Sure, we have plenty of taxpayer funded private stadiums and other venues where many of the sporting events could be held, just like Beijing. But where would we have the whitewater kayak events? The San Jacinto river? Yeah, the course would include dodging unidentifiable floating objects in the water…most of which would probably be bodies.

Of course, Brays Bayou would be a great choice if we had any rainfall at all.

At first thought Galveston would be a great place for the Beach Volleyball event. But on closer examination, I don’t think the sparkling brown waves washing upon littered beaches is what the Olympics would want portrayed. No. Beach Volleyball would have to be held somewhere like Padre Island and that’s too far to commute each day. Another “X” for Houston.

The cycling events would have to be held in Montgomery County. There are just too many potholes for cyclist in Houston and Harris County. Plus, citizens who live in the rural areas of Montgomery County are used to swerving to miss road hogging cyclist.

If you think traffic is bad in Houston now, just wait until the Olympics show up. You only have to ask a previous host city what kind of 4 year nightmare the Olympics cause. I mean, we can’t get the streets fixed now, why should we think they’d get fixed for the Olympics?

Speaking of previous host cities, the Olympics are never profitable for the host city. Normally the host city will go in the hole putting on the Olympics. Of course, seeing how many Houstonians do not mind paying higher taxes to pay for private Sports Stadiums, this may be a wash. Taxes in Houston and Harris county would certainly go up if the Olympics ever came to Houston.

Houston’s fire, ambulance and rescue responders would be overwhelmed by the sharp increase of accidents due to Metro Bus drivers and the light rail system. The Tourist that the Metro Busses missed would become fair game for the Toy Train downtown.

And what would tourist do after they went to Galveston Beach, Moody Gardens and the Kemah Boardwalk? It’s not like the area around Houston is full of beautiful scenery…unless you consider the Ship Channel and Refinery Row as scenic.

What has it been, nearly a decade since MInute Maid park was built? Remember how they said it would “revitalize” downtown? I don’t think that a few new restuarants, bars and new cardboxes and shopping carts for the homeless counts as “revitalization”. Sorry, but we still have a big portion of the downtown area that is ugly!

No. No matter how much Houston’s social elite (whom most live outside of Houston’s city limits anyway) want to think that Houston is the cultural center of the World, it’s not true. We’re a working town and that’s what we do best. Don’t try putting lipstick and a dress on this Pig and calling us Cinderella.

This is just a few reasons why Houston will never host the Olympics. Now you can exhale and go back to work.

Yesterday afternoon while headed home, I say the lighted Transtar sign flashing a warning about a missing elderly man from Fort Worth. I was on the South West side near 610 and 59. The sign stated the elderly man was in a Gold Honda Accord with Texas plates. As I got on Beltway 8 on the West side and headed North, every other side read something different. Different car description, different license number.

By the time I made it to Kingwood, the car had become a Gold Kia Spectra and the license plate had changed once again!

I wonder how many Gold Honda Accords with old men driving were reported?

I still find it amazing how fast Houston is growing. I laugh every time I hear one of those know-it-all’s on TV News say that Houston’s economy is slowing down or that home sales are declining. Don’t believe it for a minute!

I can’t get over how some outlying areas are just exploding with growth. Now for most people that might sound okay. The problem lies in the fact that many people moved out to these outlying areas to get away from the traffic congestion, crime and everything else the urban life brings with it.

Look at the Katy area. Just a few short years ago you were in the boonies once you crossed over Barker Cypress. Now, you have to go all the way past Katy itself to find some solitude.

The Magnolia and Tomball areas aren’t any better. Take a look at all the construction around the 1488 and 2978 intersection. 2 years or so ago there was no Home Depot, Sonic, Target and certainly no Townhouses going in. What was once a sleepy little intersection that had one Chevron Station now looks no different from any intersection in Houston.

What’s fascinating is that the people who moved out there did so to get away from all that crap but once they moved out, they demanded more variety in shopping and other services. So the shopping and services moved to them.

There are a lot of these people who work in Downtown Houston. It’s about an hour and half drive most mornings , with good traffic, and much more if the traffic slow. Now that 1488 is a screwed up mess (thank you TXDOT), their drive time has increased.

Kingwood hasn’t faired any better in recent years. Now most of the land around 59 is being developed for more stores and more shops as shopping in Humble has become a “shop at your own risk” according to some residents I’ve talked to. Plus, a 15 minute drive is too far!

Rumors have it that this is going to be either a Office Complex or new Shopping Mall.

Well, all I can say is that pretty soon, you’re going to be living right in the slums with all the crap that you expect from a big city like Houston. This isn’t going to solve itself anytime soon. Not as long as the politicians can make money and the residents only have to drive 5 minutes to their favorite shopping.

How many of us in Houston have known that the TxDot is about as brain dead as they come? I’m not sure where they’re getting their Civil Engineers, you know, the guys who shut down 4 lanes of a 6 lane highway and those 4 lanes have no construction workers on them? It’s these same guys who decided the Beltway 8 exchange at I-10 on the West side needed rebuilt…why? They’re not sure why, they just know it needed rebuilt.

They’re either brain dead and/or they’re getting some helluva kickbacks! Personally, it would take a lot of money for me to pull the crap they have and to have all of Texas believe I was the biggest group of dumbasses in the State.

Of course, you’d have to have some sort of dignity to be ashamed enough.

But do not fear good Houstonian’s. The incompetence of the TxDot has spread North East to the Kingwood, Porter and New Caney area. Once again, they’re not sure what the hell hey are doing, but by-George they’re doing it!

More lanes closed for no apparent reason, more goof ups. Yep, it’s nice to see the TxDot hasn’t changed a bit!

And we all know these things will come to light after the roads are built

It took longer to build than projected

It went way over budget projections

It took so long that now additional lanes need added

It’s about time that TxDot as well as many other state agencies were overlooked by citizen watchdog groups and the heads of those agencies made responsible for the stupid decisions they make. This incompetence has to stop someplace!

You know it’s a slow news day in Houston when the TV News stations start regurgitating old news.

About every 6 months we have the same old stories. Imagine this…(ominous music plays in the background…dadadadum!…there’s a picture of an 18 Wheeler barreling out of control down a highway in Houston…(more ominous music…dadadadum!)…then a voice over by the Reporter…he says…“Houston roads are a deathtrap, 18 wheelers barreling down the road uncontrolled, running over anything in their way…we have the exclusive story just for you…next after this message from our sponsor”…the screen fades to a scene showing an 18 wheeler in a wreck with a small imported car…smoke bellowing from the wreck…moans of innocent victims…more ominous music…dadadadum!

Channel 2 aired a story last night about how 18 Wheelers are dodging the scales on I-45 North in Walker County.

The News stations have a vault full of old crap they can throw up on the air when there is nothing else. Big trucks is a favorite of most of the stations. So are City employees, underground prostitution rings in the shopping malls, etc, etc.

So last night, Channel 2 took their “undercover” camera and followed a Big truck as he exited 45 North and went through New Waverly to get past the scales. As the Big truck got back on 45, the Reporter blurted out

“See there, he didn’t even stop, there was no reason why he should have exited. He did this to get around the scales.”

Let me clue in to something Mr. Reporter. HE DOESN’T NEED A FREAKIN’ REASON!

Dodging scales…or Chicken Coops as truckers call them…has been an age old game between truck drivers and state police. This reporter acted like it was breaking news, I’m surprised they didn’t break into regularly scheduled programming!

Normally, it’s a story about “unsafe” Big trucks on the road. The news crew will hound Houston’s truck enforcement division as they set up portable scales or roam around pulling over big trucks.

You’d think, as educated and talented as these people are suppose to be…they could dig up something better than the crap they do. Is this what a journalism degree turns out? Someone should be asking for their money back!

Of course, there are some stories they just won’t touch…stories that involve their sponsors. Oh hell no! You don’t expect them to actually uncover something meaningful do you?

How about staking out the labor camps and see who’s hiring illegals?

How about digging into the New Black Panther Party and see who’s giving the money to support Quannell X and his thugs?

How about doing some ambush journalism on the Building industry in the Houston area and how they rely on illegal aliens for labor, shady sales tactics to sell homes and even shadier lobbying in Austin to get Builder friendly laws passed for their self while screwing the consumers?

I could go on, but then I’d be doing your jobs for you. Jobs that your bosses won’t allow you to do and stories you don’t have the gonads to buck you bosses on.

Stay tuned for the next week when they’ll take us undercover and show us “Tow Truck Drivers From Hell.“

Then we’ll have the “Illegal Slot Machine Monday”.

Damn, I’m going to go out and get me some popcorn!

Yesterday a Houston Police Officer shot a naked man who was confronting him.

It all happened as the Officer was filling out paper work after making a traffic stop. The guy drives by in his truck and stops in the middle of the road. The Police Officer tells they guy to get back into his truck and move it because he’s blocking traffic.

The man starts taking off his clothes and confronts the Officer, who calls for backup and gets out of his Cruiser.

He uses his Taser but the device doesn’t work All news reports I’ve seen says the “confrontation continued into the woods”. The Officer come back out of the woods being chased by the Perp.

Houston PD spokesman stated that as he was being chased, he discharges his weapon. Then the Perp got into the Officers Cruiser and had to be pulled out by two other Officers. The Perp then ran into the woods and died.

Okay, this story doesn’t sound quite right and I’m sure the details will come out later.

However, the facts that we know are this.

The Perp stopped his truck in the middle of the road

The Perp took his clothes off

Perp then confronted a Police Officer after being told repeatedly to get back into his vehicle

Police Officer tries to Taser the Perp but it failed

Perp continues the confrontation

Perp gets shot

Perps gets into Police Car and tries to take off

Perp is pulled from the car and runs into the woods to die

Quanell X To The Rescue

Never missing a chance to get his face on TV, Quanell Xwas quick to show up and start demanding a investigation by the Justice Department! Quanell did his dog and racist show by muttering a couple sentences like “They shot him down like a dog”

If you’re not familiar with Houston’s Quanell X, he’s a low rung Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton wannabe. A Poverty Pimp in training.

If Quannel X is good at one thing, it’s showing up in front of TV camera’s and inciting black people. Hey, if there’s no donations to the cause, someone would have to get a real job!

As you can guess, a large crowd gathered at the scene. All were hollering that the man was shot on purpose and other Garbage.

It always amazes me how these people who were at home or elsewhere always know how a scene went down even though they were nowhere around. Ever notice that?

The Perps father even went as far as saying “They shot him for no reason, he didn’t have a gun. They could have shot him in the leg”

Ummm…Yeah…then you’d be suing the Houston PD over that!

Perhaps if you’d taught you Child to respect authority, he’d still be alive today?

But let’s try to understand why any sane man would stop his truck in the middle of the road next to a Police Cruiser, block traffic with no regard for any one else, get out and take his clothes off in the middle of the street and then proceed to confront an Officer.

The only reasoning I can come to IMHO is drugs. What do you want to be that when that autopsy comes back they’ll find drugs in his body?
