I could not believe it when I saw this story. Well, at first I couldn’t believe it. But before I was finished with the article, I knew that Judge Jose Longoria was a Liberal Democrat. Ask me how I knew this? ESP? Prior knowledge? Gossip from Aliens (the ones from Outer Space, not Mexico)? No, none of those reasons. The reason I knew that this Judge Longoria was a flaming Lib was because he told a woman in his court that…
“You don’t spank children today. Maybe in the old days, maybe we got spanked, but there was a different quarrel. You don’t spank children. You understand?”
The Woman will be on probation for five years and during that time, will have to take parenting classes, follow all CPS guidelines, and make a one-time $50 payment to the Children’s Advocacy Center.
Oh yeah, I’m sure she will be a much better Mom after taking parenting classes and follow CPS Guidelines. You know CPS, it’s the same group that did such a swell job with the kids they kidnapped from the FLDS.
But my curiosity got the better of me and I had to go and look up this wonderful example of a Parent named Jose Longoria. Yep, just like I thought, he’s a Democrat from Corpus Christi. If you’d like to contact Judge Jose Longoria, follow that link to his page at the Texas State Directory.
I’m wondering if the Judge received formal training to be a parent from Texas CPS? I think so.
All sarcasm aside, this is just another fine example of the Government over stepping their limitations and forcing their self into our lives. Actually, it’s the Judge who should be put on probation and made to take parenting classes…from real parents!
But I’ll go one better. Those of you who live in the 214th District Court region, especially those of you who now know that this Judge wants to tell you how to raise your kids, need to band together and send him to the unemployment line come the next election. It’s time we stop letting these Liberal politicians (and yes, that’s what this jerk is, a politician, not a judge imho) force their way into our lives.
Oh, did this woman really break any Texas laws by spanking her kid? You be the judge. Here’s what the Texas State Attorney Generals site says under the question “Is Spanking Okay?”
“Texas law allows the use of force, but not deadly force, against a child by the child’s parent, guardian, or other person who is acting in loco parentis. Most parents do, in fact, use corporal punishment (in the form of spanking) at least occasionally, and most do not, in fact, consider it abusive. Experts disagree about the advisability of ever spanking a child. Some say that, combined with other methods of discipline, mild spanking of a small child is harmless and effective. Others claim that other methods of discipline work as well as spanking or better, and that spanking is not necessary. Many child advocates and experts in child development contend that all forms of corporal punishment, including spanking, are harmful. Most believe that spanking an infant is always inappropriate. The law does not attempt to arbitrate between the different views on the best method of disciplining a child. What we do know is that severe corporal punishment can be extremely damaging and dangerous, and this is what the law prohibits as abuse.”
From what I’ve read, the child only had “red marks”. This sounds like whelps to me. I would never intentionally leave whelps on my child, and neither would my parents. But it happens. Dad left a few whelps on my backside with a belt and Mom left a few with some switches. But that’s all they were. Whelps.
I’m not going to claim to know what this woman used to spank her kid, but if whelps were the only thing she left, I’m betting the kid will get over it. If not, then she’ll have a good story to tell her therapist about the time a Liberal Texas Judge named Jose Longoria told her Momma that “we don’t spank”.

Other articles stated that the mother did not use a belt and that no bruises were left. What’s demented is that she’ll have a felony record and be labelled a child abuser. That sounds like a great way to keep a job and provide for your kids.
Note it was the paternal grandmother who took the child to the emergency room, and now has custody. Now, for something that didn’t even leave a bruise, why a trip to the emergency room? Maybe this was some sort of engineered custody dispute.
I don’t think being raised by a grandmother with an unemployed felon mother is better than being raised by an employed mother.
But maybe that judge knows best. Since in the ‘old days’ 7 million adults weren’t in prison, the teenage pregnancy rate wasn’t sky high, and CPS wasn’t over capacity. But we’re in the ‘new days’ where the first time a child is disciplined is when they’re in juvenile court.
Who voted for that judge?!
