Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden Pct. 4 Constable Candidate East Montgomery County

Yeah, I know early voting has started and I probably should have done my research on local candidates (Montgomery County Texas and East Montgomery County) who will be running in the March 4th Primaries. But as they say, better late than never!

So for the past few evenings I’ve been looking over and researching my choices on local candidates. One of the races that I’m particularly interested in is the Precinct 4 Constable race. This race will feature incumbent Travis Bishop against Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden.

Now, let me clue you in on my political beliefs. Political positions were never meant to be filled by career politicians. It doesn’t matter if you’re a President or County Commissioner. However, somewhere along the way we let career politicians become common place. Our Founding Fathers would leave their farms and shops to go into public service. They would fill those positions for 1 or 2 terms and then go back to their farms and shops having fulfilled their commitment to their fellow citizens.

We’re now plagued with politicians who virtually go into a political position and stay there for life. That’s wrong.

For one thing, when these politicians get comfortable knowing they will be in the same position year after year, they fail to embrace change and do what’s good for the citizens. They instead start thinking in terms of what’s good for them or what they can get out of the position.

Disclaimer: I guess I should throw this in as well. I know neither of these gentlemen running for Pct. 4 Constable’s Office. Have never met either one that I’m aware of. All I know of them is what I can find in county records and newspaper articles and published campaign material. This article is one Voters opinion and you can do with it what you wish!

Why I can’t vote for Precinct 4 incumbent Travis Bishop

Travis Bishop has been Precinct 4 Constable since 1989. That’s too long for anyone to be in one position. That’s the main reason. Did he have a real non-taxpayer supported job before becoming Constable?

My secondary reason is that I believe his Office is more concerned with patrolling Highway 59 for drug runners than it is in patrolling local neighborhoods. I rarely see a Constable on my road and it’s one of the busiest smaller roads in East Montgomery County. In fact, when I do see one they’re generally following Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies down the road.

Patrolling Highway 59 in Montgomery County Texas is the job of DPS Troopers and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Dept. They’re better able to handle drug interdiction on the Highways. Let them do their jobs. The Constables should be in our neighborhoods catching dopers and thieves there, before they reach Highway 59! (That’s also the job of Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, are you listening Tommy Gage?)

Thirdly, I believe that Mr. Bishop has either let money that could have went to Precinct 4 slip out of his hand or has failed to aggressively pursue Pct. 4.s fair share of Government funds and grants. I also never hear of the Commissioners allocating more money to Precinct 4. This says to me that someone is not busting their keester and trying to find funds for more equipment and personnel in Precinct 4.

In fact, I just read a quote from Traivs Bishop in the HCN Newspapers where he said “I’m not ready to retire.” Oh really? Since when did the Precinct 4 Constable position become a career position and why should Montgomery County Taxpayers pay for your retirement? This is a prime example of what happens when you let politicians remain in office for too long. We need a change in the Precinct 4 Constable’s Office.

Why I’m voting for Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden for Precinct 4 Constable On March 4

During my research over the last few days, I’ve come to a conclusion that the best choice for me (and the people of Precinct 4) for Precinct 4 Constable is Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden. Here’s my reasons why.

He’s never been Precinct 4 Constable. From what I’m seeing, this man is chomping at the bits to get into the Precinct 4 Constables Office and start making changes. At this point I don’t care if he actually succeeds, I just want someone in there trying! I don’t think that is currently being done.

Rowdy Hayden also says he wants more Constables in the neighborhoods and off the Highways. That’s exactly what I want also! I’ve read the plan that Rowdy Hayden has for Precinct 4 in East Montgomery County and it’s an ambitious plan and it’s one that needs to be undertaken.

I’ll admit, this man’s enthusiasm for trying to win this position is what I like the most about him. I see his signs all over the place, his ads in the local papers and then this morning I found a “Voter Extra” newsletter type campaign flyer in the Cafe.

I’ve also saw major endorsements for Mr. Hayden. Ed Rinehart, Montgomery County Commissioner (who has worked with both Hayden and Bishop) has endorsed Mr. Hayden as has the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Association.

There’s been a rift between the County Commissioners office and Pct. 4′s Office for a while. Part of the cause is Mr. Bishop’s doing. For example, Commissioner Rinehart recently had this to say about Bishop in the Houston Community Newspaper…

“We (the commissioner’s office) bought laptop computers and video monitors (for Bishop’s office) worth about $15,000,” Rinehart said. “When he came back to Commissioners Court asking for $3,000 more, I was talking to the county auditor, who said he (Bishop) could use his forfeiture fund and then I found out that was about $160,000.”

That’s pretty irresponsible if you ask me. Yep, we need a change in Montgomery County Pct. 4 Constables Office. This riff that was allowed to occurr is hurting the Citizens of Precinct 4.

So far I haven’t seen anything from his opponent, incumbent Travis Bishop. Perhaps after spending 20 years as Constable of Pct. 4 Mr. Bishop believes he has this race sown up election after election.  Just another reason we should never have career politicians in our elected Offices.

I believe it’s time for a change in Pct. 4 Constable Office and I believe Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden will do an excellent job, that’s why I’ll be voting for him on March 4th.

Check into Mr Haydens family life and you wil see it is a mess. If a person can not lead his life according to the word how can he take care of an entire Precinct? Education also matters – he has no formal education.

  2. Texas on March 7th, 2008 7:42 am

Why would I want to check into his Family Life? It has little to do with the job he will do for the Precinct. How many elected officials do you know with a crappy home life? I know of several but they still do a good job.

As for the lack of Formal Education, so what? He wants to be our next Constable, not the leader of the Free World. I know a lot of “Formally Educated” elected officials without a lick of common sense that couldn’t find their way to the bathroom if it wasn’t marked for them.

Besides, our Govt. are full of officials who have Formal Education and it doesn’t help them become better leaders.

Sorry, but Rowdy Haydens 16+ years of Law Enforcement experience trumps anything he might have learned in college somewhere.

BTW, Congrats to Rowdy for trouncing Travis Bishop. The people of East Montgomery County have spoken and they’re tired of the same old – same old. We want elected officials who will work for us.

Also, good riddance to our DA. He failed to work for the people of Montgomery county and now he has to go get a real job…which shouldn’t be hard, he’ll just need to call in some of those “favors”.

My son goes to school with Rowdy’s kid, I have to say that he is one of the most respectful teens I have ever met. That does not come from a difunctional home life! I simply do not agree with you. Besides, what kind of man puts his grossly underqualified young son on the opposing ticket (democratic) just to find a back door into the Constable’s office??? OH< TRAVIS BISHOP. Thats who.

I am looking forward to seeing Rowdy Haden elected as our next Constable in East County. He has always been a kind and level headed person and as for his family, they are very qualified to be kin to such a fine young man and experienced Law Enforcement Officer.
Rowdy, we in the Houston Family, wish you the very best and will ALWAYS be here to assist you in every way.

Things are looking up in this great East Montgomery County!

  6. Jerry Ortom on October 18th, 2008 1:55 am

Cole, I don’t know you from Adam but I want to ask you a question if I may: did you actually finish high school with sentence structures like you just posted? Or did your father help you through that, too?

    Proud Rowdy supporter, Jerry Orton

Oh Cole, I forgot to remindl you to pay closer attention in your next campaign sign theft classes.

Smile, you’re on Candid Camera! Ever watch that show? Heck, we might see that footage on that series “Stupid Criminals” one day!!! Nah, they’d say, no one is THAT stupid!!!!!

Whatever happened to the charges against Cole Bishop for stealing Hayden’s signs?

    Cole – you’re a joke, and everybody’s laughing.

  9. Take Care of Your Own on October 20th, 2008 7:59 am

I am appauled at the audacity of Cole Bishop to critisize anyone about what they do or do not do when he is constantly hiding behind his fathers shadow! The tactics you are using to try to win this campaign prove to me that you are NOT the right man for the job. Mr. Hayden has presented his campaign above board, with no smearing of names like you, and instead, focused on the issues and needs of this Precinct. I mean, to show just how much you DO NOT CARE, while this County had devastation all around us, with people losing their homes, and some even their lives During Hurricane Ike, you’re belittling your opponent on-line at 12:19 am on Sept.14th! How immature is that?

  10. Ready to get Rowdy on October 20th, 2008 10:57 am

My goodness.. a trailer on his fathers property?! So your daddy’s brick home makes your more qualified for the position? These petty attacks and the intimidation by the Bishop campaign just aren’t going to work anymore. Ever hear the saying people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones? Well the Bishop’s have been throwing stones for twenty years and their house is shattering. In my opinion, it is sad that Travis would use his obviosly not so intelligent son to try and stay in office just a little longer, because we all know that Cole couldn’t run the constable’s office. Cole couldn’t run a foot-race let alone a campaign, and that is why daddy is right there heading all of this nonsense. We all know Rowdy is the MAN for the job and in two weeks when we have our new qualified constable, East Montgomery County will be a better place!

  11. Mayor Floyd Jackson on October 23rd, 2008 8:33 am

Well folks, looks like enough has already been said, But, I have to ask everyone a simple question.
Who do you think has what it takes? Rowdy with 16+ years of “on the job” deputy experience or Cole with his almost 2 years of training as a reserve deputy under his dad. This is not throwing mud folks this just a truthful question we must address. The Montgomery County Law Enforcement Association has endorsed Rowdy and so that alone is good enough for me.

  12. Rowdy on Nov. 4 on October 26th, 2008 10:15 pm

It’s time for a change in Precinct 4. There are deputies in the current constable’s office that did not support their boss for reelection in March only to have their careers on the line because he thought not standing with a “vote for Travis Bishop” sign in their hands was grounds for firing. That is truly a sad day to know my taxpayer dollars are paying his salary and then to seem so desparate to put your 22/23 year old son on the ballot so you can run it from behind the scenes — shame, shame.

  13. Chad King on November 1st, 2008 6:07 am

The little time I was at the N.C.Court house today to cast my vote, feeling very fortunate and proud to live in a country where we all share this right. I can honestly say I was embarresed to a new low by the juvinal, backstabbing remarks coming from the entire HAyDEN group. Worst of all in front of the voting public like children, certainly not a mature politican. This campaign has become nothing but a vendeta clearly against the BISHOPS to try an even a score for being the overwhelming winner 20 years ago. ROWDYS dads record as constable was disappointing and short lived. About your apponate. I guess thats what ROWDY means in the hateful negative rag being passed out by him. One quote that proves this has to be the main motavation in his words. Under Qualifications, you said you I have prepared to be the constable of Pct.4 for over 20 years, quite a consideration. A VENDETA is a sad and scary reason to run for an office that we count on for the safty of our neighborhood. If that wasn,t enough to not only seek some kind of help, the none stop lies and BULL you printed. Are you realy so far from the reality that BISHOPS true record is and could only be exceptional to accomplish 4 term. Clearly the majority of Pct. 4 voters disagree with your desperate and truly embarrasing campaign. You are very aware the only reason your dad did not retire as a constable is because he lost to BISHOP an according to you, your vendeta training started 4 yrs. before any formal training.According to your math which scares me. Iguess cole has been in training since birth and since and you dont even want to compare what you consider a work week. BASICALLY HE DONT HAVE TO LIE OR CHEAT OR SLANDER YOUR FAMILY TO BE A BETTER MAN.

Admin’s Note: In fairness to Chad, he left 3 very long comments all along similar lines as this one. Chad, I appreciate your comments but one post on how great the Bishops are and how Evil the Hayden’s are (your opinion), is enough. The voters of East Montgomery County will decide on Election Day. Obviously you’re a friend of the Bishops and that’s all well and good. But Precint 4 has been needing a change for a long time and on Election day, it looks like we’ll be getting one.
