Randalls Round Rock Fires Army Vet For Helping Customer

In a World full of PC corporations, you can add Randalls Grocery to that list. Especially the Randalls Round Rock location. Here’s what happened according to the Statesman. The produce manager, Troy Schafer, was taking a break when he heard a woman call for help. A scumbag purse snatcher had grabbed her purse inside Randalls at the Deli counter and ran out the door and was getting away. Troy followed the purse snatcher while the customer called 911. The creep was caught by the Police thanks to Troy and the purse returned. Now you’d think this story would end happily, with the lady getting her purse back, Troy getting recognized for doing a good favor and the creep getting a one way ticket to Huntsville. Not so.
You see, Randalls has this policy against their employees chasing crooks. Okay, that’s cool. It’s their store and they can make their own policy. But what about using just a wee bit of common sense here? One of their customers, inside their own store, was calling for help. Now some could say that Randalls failed to provide adequate security for their customers, which led to this purse snatching to happen in the first place, but we’re not going there. That’s a whole story in itself.
Anyway, the lady was calling out for help. A Randalls employee responded and helped the lady. Troy simply followed the crook and directed police to his location. I don’t think you could actually call that chasing, but Randalls does and had the fortitude to fire Troy over the phone after meeting with him earlier in the week. Wow, what a stand up company!
I think that the lady who’s purse was snatched summed it up well…
“He heard me needing help, and he helped me. And then you fire him in this economy? It’s just wrong,” she said. “It is absolutely wrong.”
This is just another reason in a long line of reasons I don’t shop at Randalls. I haven’t stepped foot in one of their stores in years. I’ve always found better produce, prices and customer service at HEB, Fiesta and Krogers.
Some are calling for boycotting Randalls. I’m not going to go that far. I’ll tell you that it’s their store and they get to make policy. If they want to be complete jerks about this, that’s their right. As a Consumer, you have the right to shop other grocery stores such as Kroger, HEB or Fiesta if you do not agree with them making an exception to this rule or do not agree with them on anything!
Just keep in mind, that if you’re mugged at/in a Randalls food store, the employees are prohibited from helping!

I have had horrible service at HEB while going thru physical rehab with a collapsed pelvis…I won’t shop there! (I waited over 45 minutes after multiple calls for a carryout until I carried out myself.) Yes it hurt, and yes I lived thru it but I’m still not over it!
I’ve got to tell ya that we don’t have access to Kroger’s in this part of Texas (South of Dallas)and WalMart doesn’t have the best in the way of produce…so I’ve been shopping Randall’s so now I’m wondering if I shouldn’t just grow my own food?
