Goodbye Lenox BBQ, Hello Light Rail
In another fine example of Big Government running over the small guy, Lenox BBQ was torn down this week. The reason? Well, the Harrisburg light rail of course! Got to have light rail out to the East side now.
Hurricane Ike – Reflections and Lessons Learned
Finally, a week after Hurricane Ike came ashore in Galveston, I’m here in Montgomery County with my power back on. It’s been quite an eye opener for sure. This was my first major hurricane to experience and it won’t be one I’m likely to forget soon. I was here for Tropical Storm Allison some years ago and Hurricane Rita was a near miss. But Hurricane Ike is the first one that I’ve had to deal with. I can honestly say that my hurricane preparedness plans were not up to snuff!
Houston Will Never Host The Olympics
I was in a coffee shop the other day when I overheard two people talking about the Olympics. One said to the other, “One day Houston will host the Olympics“.
What a stupid and naive statement I thought to myself.
Okay, it might happen but only under the right circumstances. Mainly that the decision makers along with the IOCC are paid off. That’s the only reason I can see that a pollution filled crap hole city such as Beijing would be allowed to host the Olympics.
Houston Garden Centers – You Have Unhappy Customers!
Earlier this Spring I redesigned my landscaping around my home. Not only did I pull up the existing beds, I put more in. I usually get my plants and landscaping supplies at Lowes, Home Depot or Wal-Mart because they have good prices and a money back guarantee. However, I couldn’t find everything I needed there so I took my first trip to Houston Garden Centers location in Conroe at 1488. I have to tell you, I couldn’t have been more displeased with this Houston Garden Centers location if I’d tried!
Houston Gas Prices
I was on the West side of Houston yesterday traveling down Hwy 6 when I decided to see how much of a difference there was on Houston gas prices. From Hwy 6 just North of I-10 all the way up to 290, I did my own survey. Here’s what I found.
The cheapest gas in Houston along Highway 6 was at Kieth Harrow at the Wal-Mart, $3.57 a gallon.
The Valero just down the road was $3.59
Houston Gas Prices – A Prophetic Sign?
Back in March I was having lunch in New Caney when I looked out the window at the Brookshire Brothers store and I noticed their gas sign. I nearly choked on my lunch! I then looked at their sign near the pumps and it read just over 3 bucks.
Obviously Brookshire Brothers either has a comic putting up the gas prices or a disgruntled employee! Still, it made you think. How long will it be before we see these type of gas prices in Houston?
Citizens in Houston Subdivisions, Embrace The Mexican Culture!
If you drive through very many new Houston subdivisions like I do, you’ll come across this scene quite frequently. A Mexican owned food van selling food on the side of the street. These things are a nuisances at the least and health hazards at best. Oh, not from just the food they serve, but from the people driving them!
Houston’s Urban Sprawl – Coming Soon To A Neighborhood Near You
I still find it amazing how fast Houston is growing. I laugh every time I hear one of those know-it-all’s on TV News say that Houston’s economy is slowing down or that home sales are declining. Don’t believe it for a minute!
I can’t get over how some outlying areas are just exploding with growth. Now for most people that might sound okay. The problem lies in the fact that many people moved out to these outlying areas to get away from the traffic congestion, crime and everything else the urban life brings with it.
Does The TxDot Think Before They Do Anything?
How many of us in Houston have known that the TxDot is about as brain dead as they come? I’m not sure where they’re getting their Civil Engineers, you know, the guys who shut down 4 lanes of a 6 lane highway and those 4 lanes have no construction workers on them? It’s these same guys who decided the Beltway 8 exchange at I-10 on the West side needed rebuilt…why? They’re not sure why, they just know it needed rebuilt.
