Teachers Union Using Fuzzy Math To Spin Poll Results About Bonus Pay

The Houston Federation of Teachers recently polled 3000 of its Houston Indpendent School District members and about half said that they were not happy with the Bonus system started last year for Teachers who improved their TAKS test. (let me guess, that would the half that didn’t get the bonus?)

According to Gayle Fallon of the Teachers Union;

“There’s a significant number in that survey that feel that they ought to scrap the whole idea and give a decent across-the-board raise,”

It looks like the School Union is trying to do a little fuzzy math here. It only surveyed 3000 members, yet there are over 12,000 members in the HISD. I wonder who chose the 3000? Hmmmm.

The bonus system is quite simple. If the kids improve on their test scores, Teach gets a bonus. If kids don’t do well, no bonus for Teach. Teach do good, Teach gets more money. Teach do bad, Teach gets no money. Why is that so bad? Incentivized pay is a huge tool in the Private sector to generate more producution and higher quality products and services. I guess the School Union doesn’t want neither and is content with the sub-standard results some say the old system has been cranking out for years. Its the whole “it takes a village” thing I guess.

Heaven help us if we single out the low producing and less motivated teachers. Let’s just keep paying the lousy teachers the same as the good ones. You know what happens to workers when they see the slackers and screw ups making the same money as they are? There is no motivation to set youself apart from those losers. Earth to the Teachers Union, this isn’t the Post Office, you’re teaching (or suppose to be) our kids here!

Get a clue Teachers Union. You’re always wondering why the Teachers Union has such a low perception with the Public. Helloooo, Knock, knock,  the lights on is anyone home?

This bonus system is good for our kids. It may be lousy for crappy Teachers, but as taxpayers and concerned parents, I for one could care less about the slacker Teachers and whether or not they get paid. I want the crappy Teachers gone! Let them go apply for the night manager job at the nearest Quicky Mega Mart serving slushes to the drunks, they certainly don’t belong in Teaching.

Let’s reward the good Teachers. Those that actually can teach and know how it’s suppose to be done. It’s our tax dollars, we should have a say as to how its being spent.  And for once, in this case, we are.
