I’ve been loosely following this HISD proposed Bond issue for the last several weeks and I keep having a nagging question come up.
Why is the HISD groveling at the feet of the Houston Chapter of the NAACP?
Well, okay, I know that answer. Just like you know it. HISD believes that if it get’s the Houston Chapter of the NAACP and its members behind the Bond proposal, then it will pass.
The Superintendent is practically bending over backwards and kissing their butts.
I drove past a HISD school the other day and saw Mexican kids, Caucasian kids, Asian kids, Indian kids and Black kids on the grounds. Do all the other races not count or does HISD figure they already have their vote or that they can overcome any negative voting by other races if only they can get the NAACP and their members to vote for the Bond issue?
From what I understand of the issue, HISD hired outside consultants to work out a plan of what would be the best route to make improvements to the schools of HISD. Closing some schools, merging others, building news ones…etc…etc.
However, the Houston Chapter of the NAACP isn’t happy with the experts findings and they want it done their way or they’ll raise hell and tell their members to vote against the Bond issue. This has HISD scared.
Does this sound a little like a Special Interest group trying to get more entitlements for its members? You know what they say; if it walks like a duck, sounds like a duck and looks like a duck, it must be another entitlement based program!
I’m glad I don’t have to pay property tax in Harris County. I couldn’t stomach all the crap that the rest of you are fixing to be forced to swallow at the hands of the HISD and the Houston Chapter of the NAACP!
Personally, I think we should allow all Special Interest Groups to join in the policy making decision. Bring on the NRA, AARP, PETA, GreenPeace and others! Hey, where’s LULAC on this???
